Here's an excerpt from an email newsletter from the Business As Mission network:

"The greatest "unrealized potential" in the Christian movement for the next 20 years probably rests on the shoulders of Christian business people. That's great news for every Christian person who loves business. Talk about a life of adventure. What more could you ask for when your faith and your love for business intersect? The marketplace is the only institution that touches virtually every person on planet earth."

Do you agree? If so, what is the potential that you see?

I'm in the middle of InterVarsity's Urbana Mission Conference in St Louis, MO hanging out with 500 of the nearly 17,000 college students who've invaded this town to discover God's heart for the world and be inspired to join a movement to bless the planet. The group I'm in is called the Business As Mission (BAM) track- specifically focused for business students who want to discover how to creatively wed business skills and acumen with spiritual influence. Two nuggets to chew on so far:
  1. Risk your soul.  Those Christian folks who choose to step into business as a vocation and calling are risking the livelihood of their souls. Yet, the business world is screaming for men and women who are willing to put their spiritual health on the line for the sake of rescuing those desperate for a new way to live.
  2. Use your skills for good.  A weapons specialist for the Canadian Mounted Police talked to us about how he was the least likely candidate for usefulness in God's kingdom, yet his heart was broken when he visited Cambodia and stumbled on the sex trafficking problem with children. It turns out his skills are extremely useful for negotiating with local authorities, building cases for prosecution, etc. He exhorted us to sharpen our skills as much as possible and invite God's leading to put them to his use.
